Tarapith History

Tara or Tarini is one of the Dasamahavidyas and the second Mahavidya.Tara Mata bhairava name is Akshovya or newly born Mahakala. It originates from Dipannita new moon Krishna Chaturdashi,popularly known as Kalaratri.The origin of the stars are found in the Brahmanical Hindu Tantric and mythological traditions. When the churning of the see by Devasura produced the world-destroying poisons or chaos,Mahadev drunk eat to protect creation from its effects and turned blue.But when Shiva became unconcious due to the strong poison.Shiva-shakti herself became the motherform and Mata Tara hide from the world and covered with her Shalu Saree therefore Tara maa held Maheswar in her arms and made him drink breast-sudha.This particular from of energy is popularly known as Tarini,which is situated in Tarapith Temple , devotees known as Brahma-Shilamurthi.

তারার ধ্যানঃ- ওঁ প্রত্যালীঢ় পদাং ঘোরাং মুণ্ডমালাবিভূষিতাম্। খর্ব্বাং লম্বোদরীং, ভীমাং ব্যাঘ্রচর্মাবৃতাং কটো। নবযৌবন সম্পন্নাং পঞ্চমুদ্রা বিভূষিতাম্। চতুর্ভুজাং লোলজিহবাং মহাভীমাং বরপ্রদাম্। খড়গকর্তৃসমাযুক্ত সব্যেতরভুজদ্বয়াম ।

ওঁ সর্ব্বমঙ্গল মঙ্গল্যে শিবে সর্ব্বার্থ সাধিকে। শরণ্যে ত্র্যম্বকে গৌরি নারায়ণি নমোস্তুতে।(প্রণাম মন্ত্র)

When Brahmani-Devas praised her,Tara Ma assumed a calm form shunning fierceness.Devi Tara holds sword(Kharag) and Kartika in her right hand,the lotus flower and fourhead pot given by Rudra in his left hand.The goddess Ugratara dressed up with tiger skin which are seen as old Maa Tara Photo,the serpent-shaped Akshovya-Bhairav warps her net.Mahadev fell at the feet(Tara Maa Charan) of the goddess and prayed for supreme knowledge.Goddess Shiva placed left feet(Tara) on the chest and became Pratyalidpada,which is well described in anicient book of Tarapith Temple History.

Maa Tara are worshipped in the method of Tantraism.According to Sadhana Tradition those are Vishnu,Sadashiva,Buddha,Vasistha,Durvasa,Bharadwaja,Byas,Arjuna,Bhim etc are mentioned as worshipers of Tara Vidya.

In koula tradition, the Trishakti worship practices are Kali,Tara,and Tripurasundari.Kalikula and Srikula have deferences in worship but they are both worshipers.Among the Mahavidyas those belong to Kalikula.The worship of Tarini is prescribed in Bamachar(Bamdev) through Karma-Diksha,Yoga.Because of Guhachara those are very mysterious. Ma Tara worship in sankhamala,pratyasklpa-m-pathaka yoga is associated with Chinachara.It is traditionaly belived that Brahma's son Maharshi Vasishtha cursed the Tarini Mantra or Tara Mantra after performing Sadhana on the Tarini Mantra at Nil-Parvat,but did not succeed.The Goddess appeared and prophecy to Vasishtha from Mahachina to perticipate the study of Tara sadhan(pancha "M" or Bamachar).

Vasistha went to Mahachina and saw the Buddha incessantly worshiping Tara Maa with alcohol,fish,meat and Kulashakti yoga.Brahma Rishi Vasistha was surprised and suspicious after seeing this ritual.At the time Vasishtha took Shelter of the BUddha under the instructions of the oracle from him was initiated into Chinachara.The Tara Mantra accomplished by direct Kalpa Sadhana-From this mentioned in the Brahma Yamal and Rudra Yamal,the connection of Buddhism with Tara Sadhana becames very clear.As a matter of fact,it's belived among the saints that just as Kali and Tripura Sundari's clans are propularly known as Kali-Kula and Sri-Kula among the Trisakti,so Tara-Kula is prevalent in the Tantric Buddhist tradition,which tradition is alived today among the Lamas of Nepal Tibet.Sadi Vidya predominates in Tara-Kula like Kadi and Hadi Vidya.
